Many students choose an MBA for strong pay. The M7 business schools continue to lead in salaries. In 2025, a graduate of Harvard Business School received a base salary of $470,000. This was the highest reported among all U.S. business schools in the U.S. News & World Report Ranking. Two graduates from Columbia Business School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania earned base salaries of $450,000 each.

Across the M7, the lowest average salary was at Northwestern Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. The Class of 2025 reported an average of $167,151, which still ranked 9th overall. Each with a tougher job market for schools outside the M7, these elite programs remain the top choice for the highest MBA salaries in 2024 and 2025.

Average Salary of M7s 2022 to 2025

The elite programs continue to command strong pay packages; the data also shows year-on-year changes in average salaries and long-term growth. Below is a clear breakdown of the top schools and their reported figures:

Business School Average Salary 2025 2023 Salary 2022 Salary 4-Year Change
Northwestern (Kellogg) $167,151 $169,698 $158,938 5.17%
Harvard Business School $180,889 171,740 $172,877 4.63%
Columbia Business School $173,816 168,635 $162,099 7.23%
Pennsylvania (Wharton) $179,909 $175,828 $166,391 8.12%
MIT (Sloan) $173,132 $168,095 $159,391 8.62%
Chicago (Booth) $172,309 $173,310 $165,887 3.87%
Stanford GSB $190,109 189,010 $182,272 4.30%

Average base salaries at the M7 business schools increased between 3.87% and 8.62% from the Class of 2022 to the Class of 2025, based on consistent data from U.S. News. (Figures for the Class of 2024 were not available for this comparison.)

U.S. News reports salary details across categories such as average pay, signing bonuses, high and low compensation, and breakdowns by industry, role, and geography. For this analysis, we focused on compiling the average base salaries and signing bonuses for the top 100 U.S. business schools.

Highest MBA Salaries and Signing Bonuses

The Stanford Graduate School of Business Class of 2025 reported the highest average base salary in the U.S. News ranking at $190,109. However, U.S. News did not release data on Stanford’s highest individual salary or bonus.

Stanford is often regarded as one of the best business schools in the world and placed No. 1 in the U.S. News MBA ranking. Yet, in the Poets & Quants composite MBA ranking, it dropped to No. 26 from the top spot.

This decline occurred because Stanford was excluded from the Financial Times MBA ranking due to insufficient alumni survey responses. Since the FT ranking carries 30% weight in the composite score, Stanford’s absence had a major impact.

Stanford continues to set the benchmark in the job market, as shown by the exceptionally high base salaries earned by its graduates.

Signing Bonuses

Base salaries show long‑term earning potential, but signing bonuses can significantly boost first‑year compensation. These bonuses often help new graduates cover housing costs or reduce student loans.

In 2025, some MBA graduates secured extraordinary sign‑on bonuses that offset the expense of an elite degree. One graduate from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business received a $300,000 bonus, the highest reported. This figure is about $50,000 more than the estimated cost of Booth’s two‑year MBA. The average bonus at Booth was $35,847.

Graduates from other schools also negotiated standout bonuses. At Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business, one graduate earned a $217,000 bonus, compared to an average of $38,610 and an average salary of $154,846 for the Class of 2025.

On average, students from Northeastern University’s D’Amore McKim School of Business reported the highest signing bonus overall at $53,750.

Signing bonuses are more volatile than base salaries, especially at schools with fewer students reporting data. A small number of large bonuses can raise the average significantly.

At Northeastern’s D’Amore‑McKim School of Business, only two students reported bonuses of $50,000 and $57,500, which pushed the average to $53,750. In contrast, at Harvard Business School, 280 graduates reported bonuses ranging from $3,000 to $214,000, giving a far more balanced picture.

The overall takeaway from the latest U.S. News salary and bonus data is clear: an MBA remains a strong financial investment, particularly at leading programs.

Since 2022, average MBA salaries have grown at different rates across schools. At the top 10 programs, pay has increased by 5.14%. Schools ranked between 11 and 25 saw a rise of 3.1%, while growth slowed to just 0.91% for institutions ranked 26 to 50.
