Many students choose an MBA for strong pay. The M7 business schools continue to lead in salaries. In 2025, a graduate of Harvard Business School received a base salary of $470,000. This was the highest reported among all U.S. business schools in the U.S. News & World Report Ranking. Two graduates from Columbia Business School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania earned base salaries of $450,000 each.
Across the M7, the lowest average salary was at Northwestern Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. The Class of 2025 reported an average of $167,151, which still ranked 9th overall. Each with a tougher job market for schools outside the M7, these elite programs remain the top choice for the highest MBA salaries in 2024 and 2025.

Highest MBA Salaries and Signing Bonuses
The Stanford Graduate School of Business Class of 2025 reported the highest average base salary in the U.S. News ranking at $190,109. However, U.S. News did not release data on Stanford’s highest individual salary or bonus.
Stanford is often regarded as one of the best business schools in the world and placed No. 1 in the U.S. News MBA ranking. Yet, in the Poets & Quants composite MBA ranking, it dropped to No. 26 from the top spot.
This decline occurred because Stanford was excluded from the Financial Times MBA ranking due to insufficient alumni survey responses. Since the FT ranking carries 30% weight in the composite score, Stanford’s absence had a major impact.
Stanford continues to set the benchmark in the job market, as shown by the exceptionally high base salaries earned by its graduates.

Signing Bonuses
Base salaries show long‑term earning potential, but signing bonuses can significantly boost first‑year compensation. These bonuses often help new graduates cover housing costs or reduce student loans.
In 2025, some MBA graduates secured extraordinary sign‑on bonuses that offset the expense of an elite degree. One graduate from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business received a $300,000 bonus, the highest reported. This figure is about $50,000 more than the estimated cost of Booth’s two‑year MBA. The average bonus at Booth was $35,847.
Graduates from other schools also negotiated standout bonuses. At Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business, one graduate earned a $217,000 bonus, compared to an average of $38,610 and an average salary of $154,846 for the Class of 2025.
On average, students from Northeastern University’s D’Amore McKim School of Business reported the highest signing bonus overall at $53,750.
